DID A FULL OVERHAUL on the KitchenAid Stand Mixer. I've had the mixer for over 25+ years and it finally stopped working. But instead of buying a new one, which is not made the same, I did an almost complete overhaul on this one. Replaced: Lower Gearcase, Transmission housing, front sleeve bearing, worm gear, motor shaft seal, worm follower gear, and drive motor. Opened up transmission housing and removed all gearing to inspect for worn parts. The Professional 6 is all metal (except for the transmission housing cover) so just a couple of gears looked worn. Planetary needed adjustment, although the gearing was solid. Replaced the transmission housing cover with a new metal version. Cleaned out the old grease (all that grease...) and repacked the gears. When I opened it up, the pinion gear had worn away at the lower gear housing, filling the housing with metal shavings. I replaced the lower gear housing and the pinion gear. I had to adjust the brass sleeve/bushing that the attachment shaft slips through on the planetary. The sleeve had shifted up, toward the lower gear housing which was causing the pinion gear to ride too high in the gear housing. Using a wooden dowel, I was able to hammer it back into the planetary housing. Read more
