Lower brake bearing

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You After a process of elimination it turned out to be the brake assembly   Ken M. • Pierson , MI • September 13, 2016

I first replaced the two drive belts and the motor springs. That didn't fix it although they did need replacing. I then replaced the two bearings and the brake assy. The washer runs like new. If you replace the brake assembly, you should also replace the bearings. It will save a tear down later on. The Maytag repairman wanted $600.00 dollars to do the job. I did it for less than $200.00. Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Wouldn't run first rinse cycle   Dave W. • Stayton , OR • March 21, 2015

New timer, it is really easy. First see if the other wash modes like delicate work, if they do it's probably a bad spot/contact on the timer. You can also possibly see if you have a timer contact problem by wiggling the knob up and down when it's in the suspect cycle. You have to do it hard enough to move the knob and hence to contacts . If the cycle starts when you twerk it, the contact is worn and the timer needs to be replaced. Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Sticking/seizing agitator output shaft leading to belt failure leaving washer inoperable   Jason L. • Lees Summit , MO • September 24, 2014

Perfectly! Replacing Agitator Shaft is not for the faint of heart. Replacing output shaft pinion gear on the bottom of the agitator shaft requires care, experience and patience with pressing/driving drift pins without damaging the gear itself. One slip of the drift/punch or press apparatus will ruin the gear/teeth face and will lead to failure of the transmission internally when put back into service. As best as I can tell the pinion gear is discontinued and no longer available so take care!... Read more
