Push-To-Start Knob (Gray)
Genuine Whirlpool part
By: Whirlpool
Part Number: WP8544941

This push-to-start knob replaces a worn, loose, or damaged start control on compatible Whirlpool console controls, restoring a positive push feel and reliable user interface to the appliance. What it does:

  • Engages the dryer/washer start mechanism when pressed, providing tactile control for cycle start.
  • Replaces cracked, faded, or stuck knobs that are hard to press or don't seat properly.
  • Helps correct a knob that spins freely or has worn splines and won't activate the switch.
  • Restores original appearance on consoles with a gray finish.
What's included: One push-to-start knob (gray) assembly. Install notes:
  • Disconnect power to the appliance before servicing to avoid electrical shock.
  • Pull the old knob straight off the control shaft; align splines and press the new knob fully onto the shaft.
  • If access requires removing the control panel, keep and replace all fasteners and gaskets as found.
  • Do not force the knob; if resistance is felt, verify alignment to avoid damaging the splines or switch.

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Water level switch plastic rod broke level was set to high and i couldn't adjust the water level to smaller loads   Dorothy B. • Bronx , NY • March 14, 2015

I unplugged the machine from the electric socket and removed the drain hose. I then shut the water valves to the unit. I removed the two screws from the rear sides of the control panel. I gently lifted the control panel and tilted it forward resting it on the lid of the machine to expose the control knobs. I removed the rubber tube and the plastic electric clip plug from the water level switch. This allowed me to twist the switch and lift it away from the panel. Time for the replacement... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You The motor on our clothes dryer was doing a "self protection" thermal or overload shutdown and there was a strong odor in the tub   Jim S. • Fallon , NV • November 27, 2015

It took two repair attempts to fix the dryer. At first, I noticed that the rear felt seal was completely worn out, so I thought that extra friction between the tub and the rear panel might be causing the motor to have to work too hard and overheat. I ordered a new seal from appliancepartspros.com, and installed it according to their instructional video, but it did not correct the problem. Then I decided that the motor must be going bad, so I watched the on-line video on how to remove the... Read more
