My husband fixed the microwave by first discharging the capacitor so he wouldn't get shocked or killed. He then replaced the diode which wasn't the cause of the problem but was cheap to do. This safety component prevents the microwave door from being opened during operation and is located on the door frame or handle assembly. Replace it if the door won't latch securely, the microwave runs with the door open, or if the button is physically damaged.
