Ultimately, I blew through the hose that attaches to the pressure switch. There was initially significant back pressure and then it blew free. Prior to this, I replaced the pressure switch, the main control board, and the pump. All of those were likely unneeded, but unfortunately no web links indicated this particular fix and Amana support was no help. The washer baffle set consists of curved plastic or metal lifters inside the wash drum that agitate clothes during the wash cycle. These components lift and tumble clothing to ensure thorough cleaning and prevent tangling. Replace them when clothes don't get clean properly, you hear scraping noises, or the baffles are cracked or missing.
To start my Maytag MAH8700AWW started making a thumping noise and was eating at the door boot seal. I had to do this by myself and I knew the drum assembly is very heavy. I had watched a video online where they used a strap to hold up the drum. However, my drum had nothing to hook to. So, since I had the front and back off, I slid a 2x4 under the drum from front to back, supported the front of the 2x4, and then lifted the drum with a hydraulic floor jack from the back. Removed the top panel, control panel, front panel and door seal. Sensor is underneath the drum and pulls out of a rubber grommet. Replacing is the same process in reverse. Helpful hit is that a couple little dabs of dishsoap on the metal lip helps a ton when putting the door seal back on, wouldn't hurt putting some on the sensor when slipping it back into the grommet either. I removed the door from the washing machine (4 Phillips head screws) I removed the outer plastic retainer ring, that holds the glass in place, took out broken glass, installed new, reinstalled the retainer ring, reattached the door to the machine and we were back ready to wash clothes. Read more
