This time I replaced the front and rear bearings and thrust bearing and all the gears. The hardest part is thoroughly cleaning out all the old grease. After re-greasing and assembly mixer ran like new. I wish a more robust worm gear was available. A snap ring plier is a must for this job. Read more

Opened up transmission housing and removed all gearing to inspect for worn parts. The Professional 6 is all metal (except for the transmission housing cover) so just a couple of gears looked worn. Planetary needed adjustment, although the gearing was solid. Replaced the transmission housing cover with a new metal version. Cleaned out the old grease (all that grease...) and repacked the gears. Tore down transmission gear case of my Kitchenaid Professional 600 stand mixer and replaced worn components to include front and rear sleeve bearing, worm gear thrust bearing, worm follower gear, drive shaft retaining clip, center shaft o-ring, and dowl pin. Additionally, replaced black plastic transmission housing with metal one and new gasket, replaced entire planetary assembly, and repacked transmission with OEM food grade grease. DID A FULL OVERHAUL on the KitchenAid Stand Mixer. I've had the mixer for over 25+ years and it finally stopped working. But instead of buying a new one, which is not made the same, I did an almost complete overhaul on this one. Replaced: Lower Gearcase, Transmission housing, front sleeve bearing, worm gear, motor shaft seal, worm follower gear, and drive motor.
