My wife put a pan of bars under the ice maker to cool. This melted the ice in the bottom of the ice tray together. Once it froze the auger motor stripped the drive gear trying to dispense the ice that was frozen together. It worked on crushed for a little while since the auger motor runs backwards to crush ice but it still failed after a while. I bought this auger motor and swapped it out. Remove rear dust panel and grill to expose compressor and fan. Three 1/4 bolts hold fan in place from rear, need to "reach around and feel" used a 1/4" ratchet but nut driver would work as well to remove old fan/bracket. Disconnect electrical connection. On new fan, push fan blade onto fan shaft. New fan comes with 3 mounting arms and rubber bushings. Ordered replacement kit from AppliancePartsPros. New part that was recommended did not look like the original (frig is a Maytag and new part comes in a Whirlpool bag). Chat support assured me it will work. Got it, and put it in per instruction, which was against my better judgement, as the top two wire colors were reversed on the instruction sheet, from what I had taken off.
