At first, because there was not any visible means of attaching the handle either on the front or inside of the refrigerator door, I thought the door may need to be replaced. However, I have viewed other repair videos from Appliance Pros so thought I would at least look to see what they had to say. This replacement part is a handle bar, and it is intended for use in different types of appliances. This is a genuine replacement part made by General Electric. Each refrigerator typically has two handle bars which allow the user to open and closed the doors effectively and efficiently. A new handle bar might be needed if the current one is unable to stay connected to the door of the appliance. It is possible that the screws in this part can become stripped and therefore not hold the handle bar in place. It is best to replace this part immediately as the user might not be able to open the appliance at all if the handle becomes completely detached. This repair is simple and should only take a few minutes. Using a screwdriver, remove the old handles and replace the new ones securely on the door. This handle bar cover is sourced directly from the manufacturer. This is a genuine OEM replacement part and is sold individually.
I purchased new handles, watched the instruction video, and installed the handles. This was for a 1993 GE Profile refrigerator. The ice dispenser door was not closing tightly. As a result, there was frost build up in the ice chute, which also was allowing ambient air and temperature into the freezer compartment. Upon further inspection, there was black “schmutz” on the ice door, and the rubber ice funnel and deflector parts were deteriorating.
