I needed to find a parts supplier who could provide a replacement part at a reasonable price. I first tried the manufacturer, General Electric, but they only showed freezer replacement parts for the model of my side-by-side refrigerator. This replacement part is an ice auger blade, and it is intended for use in different types of appliances. This is a genuine replacement part made by General Electric. Ice auger blades are usually found in ice maker assemblies and are used during the ice-making and dispensing process. These blades are what are used when the user is in need of shaved or crushed ice. The mechanism takes full ice cubes and cuts the ice cubes down to create the different types of ice. A new ice auger blade might be needed if the user noticed that the current blades are dull or unable to cut ice. It is possible that the blades become dull over time after many years of use, so replacing them might be a good idea. Be sure the power is completely off before attempting to repair this part.This ice auger blade is sourced directly from the manufacturer and is a genuine OEM replacement part. This was a very easy repair, the on-line video at AppliancePartsPros.com was helpful. The Helix was spinning freely (meaning, the Auger Blade was not holding it in place on the Auger). Pulling the assembly apart was a snap, and very logical (the video is perfect if you get lost). The family is now enjoying both crushed and cubed ice - and the redesign of the Auger Blade seems to prevent clogging in the ice shoot. Read more

The ice dispenser door was not closing tightly. As a result, there was frost build up in the ice chute, which also was allowing ambient air and temperature into the freezer compartment. Upon further inspection, there was black “schmutz” on the ice door, and the rubber ice funnel and deflector parts were deteriorating.
