This is a small metal or plastic retainer clip that secures the main top panel of the dryer to the cabinet frame. This is a rubber lip seal that fits around the upper portion of the washer's basket drive tube, preventing water from leaking past the shaft and into the transmission or bearings below. It creates a watertight barrier between the wash tub and the drive mechanism. Replace this seal if you notice water leaking from beneath the washer tub, hear grinding noises during the spin cycle, or find oil residue under the machine.
The noise turned out to be the bottom bearing between the belt pulley and the transmission. Once apart an easy replacement. But you did need some tools to replace the bearing as in snap ring pliers and bearing puller. The water leak was the top rubber seal which is part of the seal kit. This is an oil seal that fits around the transmission shaft where it enters the gear case on a washer or laundry center. This is a small rubber or plastic cup that sits beneath a washer's leveling leg to protect the floor and reduce vibration. It helps keep the machine stable and prevents the legs from scratching or damaging the surface underneath. Replace this pad if it is cracked, compressed, or missing, which can cause the washer to vibrate excessively, walk across the floor, or make loud banging noises during the spin cycle.
This is a small C-clip or retainer ring that secures the idler pulley to its bracket on a laundry center. It keeps the pulley in place so the drive belt maintains proper tension against the drum. Replace this ring if the idler pulley has come loose, the drum belt slips or falls off, or the dryer drum does not spin properly.
