Missing plastic clip on lid switch was the problem. Replaced plastic clip, washer operates good as new. Pliers are needed to seat the plastic piece securely onto the lid switch. Read more

Purchased new pump and replaced failed one. Followed suggestions from other customer--removed 4 hoses, then 3 screws, then flex connection to pump at pump only [leaving motor side attached]. Installation went well--although new pump was thicker at one screw so the old screw has only 2 thread engagement. Original hoses are 15 years old, stiffened with age.
