This thaw heater is the evaporator defrost heating element that melts frost during the refrigerator's defrost cycle. Replacing a failed heater helps restore normal defrosting and reduce frost buildup that can restrict cooling. What it does:
I replaced the fan and heater element. The replacement was not an exact match. I had to adjust the parts to get the harness to fit the plug was not the correct size. I cut it off and used the existing plug. Not a big deal and everything else fit. Pretty good for a twenty year old replacement. Also the heater element was a different shape but it fit as is. The home warranty people sent two guys out saying it was nearly impossible to repair the fridge and they both suggested buying a completely new freezer door for the fridge and of course the warranty company said it was preexisting and we weren't covered. Shocker. I have lighting in the freezer but not the fridge. I purchased a door switch and replaced the old one but that didn't do the trick. So i purchased a 2 amp fuse... Read more
