Whirlpool WP9871602 Trash Compactor Drawer Roller Bearing OEM Part

Rood Cause #1: One of the front roller bearings was worn out and did not spin freely. Solution #1: I replaced the two front roller bearing assemblies (both included 2-pack). Rood Cause #2: The bottom surface of the compactor slide-out assembly had become deformed (convex) most likely due to the repeated force of compaction over the years. This bottom surface rubbed against the lower frame as evidenced by removal of paint (bare metal was exposed). Friction prevented the compactor drawer from opening freely. Solution #2: I flipped the compactor slide-out assembly upside down on the tile surface of my fire pit (any flat surface should work) and whacked it 8 or 10 times with a hammer along the inner perimeter to convert the convex surface into a flat-to-slightly-concave surface. Bottom Line: Works like new ... when I step on the lower lever the compactor opens by itself. Saved the cost of a new compactor ... wife is happy ... should have done this a few years ago.

Bot both sets of roller bearings, lower ones on the appliance and the set on the trash can that rolls out. I just followed the instructions that were in the roller bearing package and only needed the tools that are recommended. Was a little tricky with the nuts, really need a person with "small" fingers to reassemble the nuts back on the lower set of bearing that are on the appliance. All in All, went well and works. Found that the new bearings are v. tight on the machine, being new, so, use lots of silicone spray after vacuuming and cleaning the rails. Took about 30 mins.

I took the entire cover off of mine and took the chance to vacuum out all the debris in the motor area. For the rollers on the container that was pretty easy. I used a putty knife to scrape the inside of the unit clean and vacuumed it out. The container rollers are a revised design and required that I snap off two tabs of sheet metal on the frame. Once done though, they improved a problem where the rollers could sag when the frame bent. The finished result is amazing and the unit functions better than it ever has.

Removed the trash compactor from cabinet. Disassembled compactor shell to gain access to nuts holding the roller assembly. Replaced base roller assemblies. Reassembled. Replaced trash carriage roller bearing wheels. Reinstalled. AppliancePartsPros had a "how to" video that was helpful, though the model was different it gave insight which was useful.
