Microwave not heating but runs? The magnetron generates microwave energy for cooking. Intermediate repair requiring discharge of capacitor first.
Replacing a magnetron in my particular 9-year-old microwave (a microwave/hood combination) was not a simple “plug & play” operation. That is why I am placing this in the slightly difficult area. First, it takes 2 people to remove the microwave from the top of the stove. Next the main outer panel need to be removed. After that, 2 sheet metal panels need to be removed in order to expose the high voltage components for testing. Always discharge the high voltage capacitor first before doing... Read more
Microwave not heating? This high voltage capacitor works with the magnetron and diode to generate heat. Moderate DIY repair with proper safety precautions.
Replaced the magnetron, capacitor and diode. Symptoms of failure were change in tone/noise put out by the microwave and no heat in the item being microwaved. Could have been a failure of either the diode, capacitor or the magnetron, but I believe it was the magnetron that failed. Replaced all three. The right hand side of the housing needs to be removed to access these parts. Take lots of pictures for reference as it all comes apart, wiring, placement of the various screws, etc. Not an easy... This fixed thermostat protects the appliance by opening the circuit when excessive heat is detected. Replacing a failed or weak thermostat restores reliable over-temperature protection and helps prevent heat-related shutdowns.
I measured the resistance between the two connectors on the magnetron: should be close to zero ohms and it was. I measured between the same connectors and the metal case: should be mega ohms, it was 15k ohms. That is a bad, partly shorted unit. I also checked the resistance of the thermal cut off, which should be zero but was 10 ohms so I replaced. The HV diode is checked with a 9 V battery (YouTube checking microwave HV diode) and it too was bad. Make sure to take pictures as you disassemble... Read more
Replacement mounting screw secures exterior panels, trim, or internal components. Needed when original fastener is missing, stripped, or damaged.
Replacement cookware for your microwave. Restores missing or damaged cookware pieces. Essential when original cookware is cracked, broken, or lost.
The rollers insert that held the rollers on the drawer was no longer doing their job. The new inserts had a new design and work great. The only mistake I made was the number of inserts I ordered. I ordered 7 and it should have been 8 so make sure to count all roller mounts. Hal Read more
