Description

Flywheel keys are a component of lawnmowers and other small machines for use in the lawn and garden. The flywheel key makes sure the flywheel stays in the appropriate position relative to the crankshaft and the piston. The first step to determining the issue is inspecting the flywheel key visually. Remove the flywheel and look at the key and the slot on the crankshaft known as the keyway. The soft metal might be damaged and need to be replaced. Look for cracks and breaks in the metal. It should be smooth and clean without burrs. It also should not wobble when the flywheel is attached to the crankshaft.
