David H Austin , TX November 30, 2018 Appliance: Model KFIS20XVM8 Fridge not cooling. Front display all messed up. Water dispenser not working. Given all the symptoms, we figured that the control board went out. First, unplug the refrigerator. The control board was easy to access by removing a panel on the back of the fridge. I unplugged all the connectors and used a putty knife to release the board from the plastic retaining clips. There was some browning on the underside of the board and the back of the refrigerator that suggests one of the capacitors on the board blew. Install the new board by pressing it into the retaining clips and reconnect everything. Then plug in the refrigerator. Replacing the board just took a couple minutes. We had to spent more time figuring out how to reprogram the board through the front panel. The board did not come with instructions, nor could we find the refigerator's data sheet. Instructions are not available in the refrigerator manual. We found some instructions online and eventually, we found a youtube video showing exactly how to program our model. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WnSg7edZbBo Here's how to program our model. If you find other online instructions, "LL" means the button to the lower left of the display. Similarly, "UL", "UR", and "LR" refer to the other 3 buttons. 1. Look at the serial number sticker inside your refrigerator. Mine says "Code 2213" 2. After installing the board and plugging it in, the display showed PE0 000 3. You enter the program mode by holding the water button, then holding the LL button (keep holding the water button!), then releasing the water button. the PE0 000 will start flashing and turn into PE0. 000 4. The "." indicates which digit is being modified. Use the UR and LR keys to change it to PE2. 000 5. Use the LL key to go to the next digit. Repeat until display says PE2 213. 6. Open and close the refrigerator door. You are done! Overall, the fix was easy and quick to do and way cheaper than getting a new fridge! Donald L The Villages , FL September 23, 2016 Whirlpool gold refrigerator 2011 stainless steel front panel control board was defective Front panel was blank but when you pushed any button, the front panel all flashed. Replaced the control board. The board was easy to get to, it is in the back and when the 4 screws are taken off a plastic cover was exposed. The circuit board had 4 easy connect connectors. I ordered the board from AppliancePartsPros.com..They had the board in stock and I overnighted the circuit board. It was delivered on time..I had to be careful when installing the board because static electricity could destroy the board. Make sure you ground your body to prevent this. I easily installed the board. AppliancePartsPros technician sent me an email showing how to program the front panel. MAKE SURE THE FRONT PANEL FLASHES PE0000. Then I programmed from the instructions. If the board stays lit without flashing then, unplug refrigerator for 30 minutes. If you put in wrong code wait 30 minutes to reset the code...The technician was very knowledgable. I had called Whirlpool before contacting AppliancePartsPros and they were clueless. Also if you read the Internet on this problem it occurs 1 to 5 years after being purchased. Ralph B Wyoming , OH January 16, 2016 Appliance: KitchenAid Refrigerator KFIS20XVMS6 Main control board failure After a few internet searches, I determined the frig outage was due to a failed main control board.
