When bake was set, the stove would function normally, it would show pre-heating then get up to temperature and beep twice like normal when it reached the set temperature. Shortly after it would start beeping and scroll “ fault detected, press start to try again” across the display. Pressing start did not resolve, the message would continue to post and the pizza inside was burnt. We noticed the broil element was glowing. This model stove does use the broil element for backing but it should only cycle it on and off and it should never glow. Troubleshooting: 1. Unplugged the stove and removed the bottom oven cover that sits over the bake element. Plugged stove in and set to bake, the bake element never glows, but the broil is glowing. 2. Inspected the bake element, looks good. Check for good continuity, Ohm out the bake element (0 Ohms) no issue there. 3. Checked the oven sensor- (1100 Ohms) does not appear to be an issue there. 4. Located the stove tech sheet on (back wall of stove), entered diagnostic mode (press -cancel, cancel, start- within 3 seconds). Went to Auto Test and let it run. Results - 1 Failure – Broil K3 bad and 10 faults detected- F6E1 overtemp runaway. 5. Tech sheet says for the F6E1 to check for 120V from P6-1 to P6-3 if missing replace control panel. The 120V is there, so no what. 6. Wiring diagram Bake element path - checked OHMS at P1-4 to P3-1 = 38 OHMS (sheet says approx. 40 OHMS), checked voltage with bake on P1-4 to P3-1 =252V – good, but the element never glows. Broil element- no need to check continuity- since I see it glow, check voltage at P1-1 to P3-1 = 252V- all the time. 7. Conclusion stove has 252V all the time going to the broil element when bake is selected and the auto test says K3-broil relay- suspect the issue is the K3 relay is gone bad- this is on the controller. 8. Ordered the control panel W10157248 and the oven sensor W10181986. 9. Even though the oven sensor showed 1100 ohms which is normal started by replacing this because strange that the bake element was not glowing. Once the sensor was replaced, now the bake element was glowing but the broil element was also glowing. Replaced the control unit; now the stove is working correctly. When bake is set the stove applies alternating power to both elements, the bake element should get hot enough to glow, but the broil element should never glow. Conclusion- believe the K3 relay on the control went bad, due to the broil element staying on solid- the sensor reported back to the controller it was at temp. and the bake element was never really turned on again, additional believe even though the over sensor checked OK it may have been damaged by the broil element heat which went way beyond normal temp. Side note- while you can unscrew the elements & sensor from inside the stove and carefully pull it out and disconnect the cables to check them, there is very little slack in the cables. Better solution was to pull the stove out, remove the rear cover which gave me quick access to everything, so for an extra 5 minutes I would go this route. It was easy and replacing the parts was simple.
