Whirlpool WP22002340 Washer Agitator Shaft Collar OEM Part

I bought the $6.00 plastic clip that holds the agitator In place while washing and the $10.50 spanner wrench that takes the 2 top nuts off to get to the agitator stem the other tools necessary for the job which are just a couple of things I already had then watched the video on line of how to do the job and then did it the whole thing took about 2 hours plus I took my time and gave both tubs a very good cleaning. I paid a guy $400.00 9 months earlier to do the same job wish I hadn't, should have done it myself the first time could have saved $385.00 original clip lasted 12 years don't know why the repair guys clip only lasted 9 months hope my clip repair job last longer than 9 months if not it will only cost me $6.00 to do it myself again if I have to! since now I have all the tools thanks guys! best regards signed do it yourself

Removed agitator, inner washer barrel, and agitator shaft then drained all the water and emulsified oil out of the transmission. Filled the transmission with new oil and then replaced the worn agitator shaft, shaft collar, shaft o-ring and stem sealing system.

Just replaced the old rusty shaft and collar and my washing machine is good as new..

Not one to patch a job, I ordered all seal kit, bearing kit, new shaft keeper, transmission oil, spanner wrench. I have the newer version of the agitator shaft so it does not have the groove for the internal clip. I Custom ground a thick washer so that as the agitator shaft goes into the transmission it fit flush into the slot for the old style shaft clip. With the plastic keeper in position I marked and pull the shaft. I drilled a hole that would be fit tight against the custom washer and used an eight penny nail bent around the shaft as a permanent internal keeper. The agitator shaft will not come out of the transmission again.

Replaced agitator collar. While I was in there, I installed the stem mounting kit. I did the stem kit and bearing about 10 years ago, so I only did the stem seals this time. The special spanner wrench is required for this job. The job is pretty straight forward the collar is under the inner tub. I put 2+ hrs for this job, as the I had to drill out the broken set-screw that holds the plastic agitator in place, plus I wanted to clean everything real good. Thankfully, I could just pull the agitator out with the shaft attached for drilling. I went with a larger stainless steel sheet metal screw (coarse thread) and a new "o-ring" ...I actually used a small modified grommet to make the o-ring. I went with a larger screw, as I need to go a size or two up to get a good bite since I had to drill out the old one.
