Kenmore dishwasher was reliable for ten years, then just would not start one day. I did a bit of research on forums and YouTube and got an idea what parts could be causing the no-start condition. Then I took the door apart and looked at it - taking note of where things were and how they were hooked up. I took pictures of the parts as installed and their layout, paying particular attention to connectors - comes in handy later when you forget what went where. My plan was to identify possible causes, test what could be tested good/bad, and use a process of visual inspection and elimination for parts that could not be tested outright such as the control module and console assembly. That led to suspect one of those last two items - console or control. With good advice from the folks here and elsewhere, and eliminating the parts that tested good, it seems everything was pointing to the console assembly, so I went with that. (Caution: Never turn your back on electrons, they are very sneaky. Make sure the unit is unpowered/unplugged if you are inside it testing. I did some hot testing but I know my way around power. Don't even think about it unless you absolutely, positively know what you are doing.) Troubleshooting took a few hours; I don't rush, am always safety conscious and I make sure my results are accurate, good or bad. I don't want to doubt or repeat my own work. Actually replacing the console assembly took about 15-20 minutes. That was the easy part. We were prepared to buy a new dishwasher if I could not fix this one. So this repair saved us probably in the neighborhood of $800 to $1,000. Overall, well woth the effort it took to diagnose and repair it. And through it all, the totally organic, manual backup dishwasher worked without a hitch. (That would be me, just for clarification.)
