David S Oregon City , OR August 13, 2016 Appliance: Model WHIRLPOOL 7920P202-60 Cracked from a simple salt shaker falling from a one foot shelf onto ceramic top caused endless spider crack across stove top surface The harderst part for us was making sure we had the correct part number. So I began by looking up and ordering the part from Appliance Parts Pros..The model number had been painted over on the underside of the cook top, but Appliance Pros knew what I was talking about when placing the order. the menu screen were easy to see and help menus worked really well. APP was very helpful in identifying the proper unit. When the part arrived I carefully removed the new glass top from the box but left the straps in place on the hard cardboard plate to protect the surface while I worked to remove the old unit. i also wanted to make sure the old part matched the new one with exact screw holes and fittings. But APP had nailed the order and it was a perfect match. First find the dedicated circuit breaker to the stove top (Very Important to overall health of repairman) and turn it off.. After I was SURE all power was off to the stove top I began by pulling the broken Jennair Downdraft's glass surface cook top out of the granite counter top and placing wooden braces under each corner of the appliance to hold it up off the counter. It should not be a problem for the ducting to move this far from the wall and AC power line as well. There was no adhesive around the bottom of the glass surface and the granite counter top but most of the time this can be a difficult problem. A plastic putty knife works to remove the old adhesive and clean the surface of the granite port where the stove top sits. A clean surface makes for a great fit when retrning the unit to it's port. When unscrewing the ten sheet metal screws around and just below the surface of the appliance's glass top, it is important to have a ratchet or closed end wrench to reach the three hex screws behind the top between the wall and the rear panel. There are two Phillips-head screws on the left and right sides inside the interior of the exhaust fan opening that will require a very short screwdriver or a ratchet with a Phillips head attached.. I removed the control knobs and rubber grommets, as well as the top-side draft cover and exhaust fan The broken stove top then slid easily up and away from the elements and internal wiring with a simple lift. It is not that heavy and if the pull is hard then a screw must still be in place. There are three screws in the back - two on either side and three in the front that hold the unit in place. Counting the two inside the exhaust port the total should be twelve. . Note: When cracked or broken ceramic tops have been broken for awhile, water leakage and surface drips can stain the interior but can now be cleaned from the internal mechanism. Caution must be maintained when cleaning so as not to unplug any wiring. After removing any debris or leakage from the inside of the stove top, the new glass fixture may be easily inserted onto the appliance and the screws replaced. Care must be taken not to ding or scratch the outer edge of the new ceramic top and I used a thin layer of adhesive backed insulation attached to the underside of the new top to hold it in place with the granite counter. This will allow for future removal without having to risk scoring the granite if the top needs any further repairs int he future. Total time on the project was forty five minutes, however...I took extra time to do some cleaning in and around the unit during the repair and let the top sit overnight before the insertion process and adhesive attachment. When I turned the circuit breaker back on it looked like I had a new stove top. The wife was thrilled...even though I do most of the cooking. Thank you Appliance Parts Pros. John B Thompsons Station , TN October 10, 2014 I cracked the top of my cooktop I dropped a plate on my Cooktop, it cracked the glass. I ordered the part from Appliance Part Pros, it took two days for the part to get to the house. I propped up the old Cooktop (did not completley remove it from the counter) and removed the 10 or so screws. Then pulled the old top out and put the new top on, replaced the screws and dropped the top back down. That was it, no issues the job took 30 min. Mark S Belden , MS December 07, 2014 Cracked glass / ceramic cooktop The replacement part I ordered for my Jenn air cooktop was an exact match. It was easy to change out. I also ordered new knobs. In retrospect, I wish I had also ordered two more new pieces that go on the top. If I had, it would have looked like a brand-new unit.
