James F North Pole , AK October 20, 2015 Appliance: Model OLDER MAYTAG NEPTUNE Leaking from tub assembly and intermittent motor operation Basically rebuilt the washer from the ground up. Spent more money than a new washer but we have been so happy with the way this machine has worked over the last 19 years figured it would be money well spent. George C Pasadena , MD December 04, 2015 Appliance: Maytag Washer- Horizontal Axis MAH3000AWW Moldy door seal I studied several online videos before attempting to replace the seal, including one from appliancepartspro. Mine was an early Neptune model (MAH3000AWW), so the videos did not exactly cover every detail. My model was not equipped with a drain hose for the door boot, so I drilled through the drum and installed one. However, the nipple on the drum was somewhat smaller diameter than the drain hose which led to leakage until I really tightened it down. The repair turned out to be more difficult than I anticipated. Gordon G Vancouver , WA September 14, 2018 Appliance: Maytag Washer- Horizontal Axis MAH4000AWW Spin cycle sounded like a jet taking off from the runway With help from Don Wonos (xtremskier07) on YouTube, we pulled both bearings from the tub and replaced with new using his home made tool. Then soaked the rubber boot in bleach to remove mold and mildew stains, then reassembled installing the door boot drain hose which was missing and left plugged. The door boot drain hose is approximately 3/4" too short, so it leaves the door boot slightly pulled to the left. It still works, but the fit is not as good as it could be with a proper length hose. The end diameters are a very good fit however. Carefully reassembled the washer and now you have to put your ear to the washer to tell if it is spinning. It should be noted that I took on the task of doing this myself because three separate professional repairmen either declined wanting to do this job or quoted me $800 for the repair as they said new bearings only were available with a new tub costing $550. My cost was $40 for two bearings made by Nachi, a door boot hose (w/ hose clamps) costing $25, and rental of Don's tool for $60 and a tub shaft/bearing seal which I believe Don generously gave me.
