Whirlpool WP2304016 Control Board OEM Part

I had to replace the control board. The repair estimate from a local appliance company was $530.00. So I decided to order the part here for $200 and do the installation myself. Everything on the control board is "plug and play" and very simple ONCE you have access to it. However, gaining access to the board is the tricky part. Unless you have the long enough tools, it can be a real challenge. I had to first remove the water drain unit. Next, the ice cutting wire cover. Then remove the ice cutting wire unit (disconnecting the appropriate plugs) in sequence. Then unscrewed the control board cover. The two screws that hold up the back of the cover very difficult to get to, however with the proper tools I'm sure the job would have gone much smoother. I then simply unscrewed the unit and unplugged the connections, replaced the new board and put everything back in place. The unit is now making ice wonderfully and it seems as though my problems with this are solved. I'll be honest and say that it took me close to 3 hours to complete this project. Had I known it would have taken that long, I would have gone to the home center and purchased a nut driver with the correct length shaft. that would have easily shaved an hour or so off the project.

I tried the easy electrical fixes-testing the evaporator thermister and the ice bin thermister. Evaporator one was bad, so I replaced it. Icemaker made ice like a champ but still shut down after the bin was full and would not come back on. The control board was the only thing left to replace in the electronics. Getting to the board was pretty easy-I had disassembly instructions here for my model-- http://www.truetex.com/ice_machine_gi1500.pdf Getting the control box cover off was easy. Getting it back on was the hardest part of the entire process because of trouble getting the screws to line up. Once I got one screw on in the back, the rest fell into place pretty easily. The machine now makes ice great and shuts down when the bin is full like it should. More importantly, it now starts right back up when the ice bin thermister tells it to. Overall, I am very pleased. Not the easiest job in the world, but it's completely doable if you follow the directions. Having the schematic was very helpful.

Originally I thought it was a Freon gas leak as the ice quantity and size diminished over two days. I installed a tap in the suction line to be able to re-charge and find the leak (happened to previous ice maker) but couldn't find a leak using a sniffer. Then I noticed the panel lights did not turn on. Control board replacement time. I replaced the control board by removing the top (4 screws) and then the cover of the control board (3 screws) changed to new board and recharged the Freon 11, The hard part was determining the proper charge of Freon. I found that 26 psi during the freeze cycle produced the best cubes. Would you like the failed board back?? John Martin
