John G Red Bank , NJ December 01, 2015 Appliance: Model KECC 508 Burners partially lit on kecc 508 kitchenaid cooktop Ordered 2 replacement elements. Then performed the following: 1. Shut off power to cooktop (IMPORTANT) 2. Remove the brackets holding cooktop in. (under counter, I had 2) 3. Push up cooktop from under counter, you will need to lift cooktop about 3 inches from counter top. I used 2 furring strips to hold cooktop up. 4. Remove the philips head screws holding the glass top on. I had 10, 2 on each side, 3 front and rear. 5. Carefully work the glass cooktop loose from its base. Dont use too much force the glass top is delicate, if it seems to tight carefully use a putty knife to loosen the top. 6. Remove the glass top, the burners are now exposed. Two clips hold each burner in, just pull up on the burner it will release from the base. 7. Now remove the electrical clips to the burner one at a time and connect them to the new burner. (I had to use a needle nose to pull each contact off. i had 3 on each burner) 8. After I wired both burners I pressed each one back into the cooktop with the old clips that were on the defective burners to hold them in place. 9.I placed thin weather stripping aroung the cooktop to seal it. Im sure you could get the seal tape but i used weather stripping. 10. Replace the 10 screws holding the glass on and position the cooktop back into the counter. 11. Replace the brackets holding in the cooktop. 12. Turn on the power Read More... 3 People found this story helpful Do-It-Yourself Rating: Repair Time Estimate: 30-60 minutes Tools: Pliers, Screwdrivers

Justin P Williamsburg , VA October 31, 2016 Appliance: Model KECC508RPS 30" The element on my kitchen aid burned out No problem removing the cooktop and taking the glass top off. I was careful to remove the old burner, the clamps on the bottom I was unprepared for, but with needle nose pliers I got under the burner and with firm pulling and tugging it came out.And reused the old clamps. I put the glass back on and did a test of the new burner. It worked!! THE PROBLEM: then I tested the other burners.. and as I watched one of the good ones glowed brightly and buned out! What happened? ..after I purchased a new burner and took everything apart, i found a small piece of black tape on the burned out burner. On my cooktop all of the burners had this tape an the metal box on the outside of the burner..except the new parts..some how that tape had come lose (it was from the second burner) and ended up on the burner coils. Moral of the story look carefully at the other burners even after the glass is on. Read More... Do-It-Yourself Rating: Repair Time Estimate: Less than 15 minutes Tools: Pliers, Screwdrivers
