Whirlpool 8184744 Frame, Outer (Biscuit) OEM Part

I did this repair without uninstalling the microwave from the cabinet. (The hinge attaching screws are inside the cabinet.) The most difficult part was the removal of the inner frame. I used a small flat screwdriver and a putty knife but it was tedious. To save time, just order an inner frame and don't worry about trying to save it. Be careful when removing the outer frame to preserve the glass and its retainer. Assembly was 5 minutes. Total cost was about $100 for a nice color coordinated microwave that you cannot buy any more. (The whole kitchen is done in biscuit color.)

I replaced the door panel with the one I bought from AppliancePartsPros.com. I suggest you look at the new one when removing the old one to see where the clips that hold it on are. Then use a putty knife to pry off the old one. Once a couple of the plastic clips are free it will come off. Remove the end near the handle first. After swapping the handle the new one will clip right on. Replace the 3 screws and your good to go.

With a screwdriver

The replacement process was very similar to others described here. I used a philips driver to remove 3 screws that hold the frame. I used also a narrow putty knife and a screw driver to loosen the frame around the edges. Check if the handle is cracked too before you buy the frame so you replace both at once. I replaced the handle 3 years ago, but I think that both should be replaced because they will eventually crack after some 8 years of use. My microwave was made in 2004. This job for me required patience to avoid damaging other parts. You may need another person to help you hold the old frame so it doesn't fall.

Removed three screws on side. Used fingers to pry down bottom and pry up top. Pulled frame off door while supporting inside window to prevent dropping. Unscrewed handle from broken frame. Snapped window in new frame. Screwed handle on to new frame. Snapped new frame onto the door. Replaced three side screws.
