Robert L Los Angeles , CA November 09, 2019 Appliance: KitchenAid 27" Built-In Electric Double Oven KEMS377DWH4 Kitchenaid over door broken glass replacement The most difficult part was figuring out how to take the door off as the manual instructions were not clear. Thank you, YouTube for your help. This door doesn't have the more modern release latches. You open the door all the way and stick Allen wrenches into the holes that appear by the joint of the latch. When you close the door to 3/4 or 7/8 closed, the latches are released from the unit and by holding the sides of the door, you pull it out. The whole replacement would take around an hour, but I did a thorough cleaning of every part as that hasn't been done in a while. With a Phillips screwdriver, start with the inner part of the door and then the outside. Put the screws in a small bowl with a citrus degreaser. As I removed each piece, I cleaned and dried it and place it aside. The next level of screws holding the glass in place is a different size. I put the screws in a separate bowl citrus degreaser. There are 3 pieces of glass for the inner door and 1 large piece for the outside of the door. In reassembling, don't screw each screw in tight. Put in each layer of screws in loosely, then adjust that piece and screw in tight. Go to the next layer and repeat. Eventually, the door is reassembled. To put it back on the oven, use an oven mitt to press open the latch so you can put the Allen wrench into the joint hole to keep it propped open for each side. I recommend that you use the same size Allen wrench for each so they are propped open the same angle. Slide the door latches into the holes and then open all the way. Pull out the wrenches and close all the way. Read More... 5 People found this story helpful Do-It-Yourself Rating: Repair Time Estimate: 1-2 hours Tools: Screwdrivers, Wrench Set
Eric S Westlake Village , CA June 10, 2020 Appliance: KitchenAid Built - In Electric Oven KEMS377DBS6 Cracked inner oven glass. I first watched videos of the repair process. Believing the fix was within my capabilities, I found the oven's serial number and ordered the Inner Oven Door Glass from AppliancePartsPros.com. When it arrived (quicker than I expected), I proceeded to watch more video's in preparation for the fix. Unfortunately, for the first step, most of the video's had a different method of taking the oven door off of the oven than matched with my appliance. Basically, most (perhaps newer) oven doors have a tab to flip that allows the hinge on the oven door to be pulled out of the oven. My hinges do not have these tabs, but the overall design is similar. Thankfully, after deeper search, I found some text instructions. When the hinge is at the completely open position, a small hole is exposed. The instructions recommended fitting hex wrenches through the holes. As the door is closed, the wrenches prevent the hinge from closing. Then, when the door is shut nearly completely, the door can be lifted to remove from the oven. With the oven door removed and set on a towel on the counter, I proceeded to unscrew all the available screws. Following the advice on another video, I placed them in a bowl with a citrus degreaser, which ends up being very helpful. Again differently than expected, my oven door has the inner oven glass I was replacing, two middle oven glass panes (larger than the inner oven door glass), and the outer oven glass. All the inner areas of the oven door were filthy. I enlisted my son (16) who assisted with the bulk of the work that included scrubbing surfaces with degreaser and scrapping the glass with a razor scrapper. In order to properly take apart the oven door, I had to pull-open the hinges and remove the hex wrenches. I was concerned that I would not be able to pull then open again enough to re-install the hex wrenches, but this was not a problem with locking pliers. I was concerned that the inner oven door glass was insulated with some fibrous product, appearing as strips of roll-our wall insulation. It did not appear to be damaged or to be releasing fibers into the air. The Inner Oven Door Glass was an exact replacement, the same size and thickness. It came together well. I would recommend a step I failed to take: take pictures at each step as you are taking apart the door. The middle oven door glass sheets are installed at angles, so it took some fiddling to get them and the oven door completely back together properly. I took the time to tighten screws gently, in rotating order. The re-installation of the door onto the oven was easy, simply reversing the steps to take it off Read More... 2 People found this story helpful Do-It-Yourself Rating: Repair Time Estimate: 1-2 hours Tools: Pliers, Screwdrivers
Leonardo A San Jose , CA November 06, 2014 Broken inner glass of oven door I found out which part was needed through the manufacturer's website, then watched an instructional video produced by AppliancePartsPros.com and ordered the part from them. The glass was delivered the following day! Great service. I then followed the advice from the video, removed the broken glass and installed the new one. I found the advice to be clear and instructive. It took me a bit longer than anticipated because it was difficult to align the door's inner lid and glass cover with the various screw holes. But once they aligned it was just a matter of tightening the screws. I used a Phillips screwdriver for the operation, assisted by a thin flat screwdriver to help align the screw holes..
