Description

The Magnetron is an OEM part for Whirlpool microwaves. As the primary heating component, it produces electromagnetic waves that provide fast, contact-free food preparation. 

Causes of a bad magnetron include normal wear degrading internal magnets and filaments with extended use, as well as possible damage from power surges that disrupt operation.

Symptoms include:

  • Slow or inefficient reheating times requiring prolonged use  
  • Imbalanced or "cold" spots in cooked foods
  • Cracks, sparks, or burning odors emitted from the microwave cavity

This OEM Whirlpool part is also compatible with KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, and some Maytag microwaves.

Microwave not heating

Apparently unplugging the microwave, troubleshooting (using google and finally found Appliance Parts), and plugging it back in recycled the microwave. It is working now. If the problem occurs again I will have a trouble shooting guide to identify the reason for the failure
