David O Paducah , KY February 13, 2024 Appliance: KitchenAid Dishwasher KDTM404EWH3 Upper dishwasher rack adjuster broke and not supporting rack or directing water flow properly Appliances of all manufacturers and vintages are mostly plastic that over time become brittle and develop stress fractures leading to failure. Such as was the case with our "high" end Kitchenaid dishwasher. The Upper rack adjustment is held in place by four thin plastic tabs that must support the entire weight of upper rack dishes. Eventually, every couple of years, they break off and the upper rack falls, Replacing the adjuster assembly is a process of snapping off/on a series of plastic catches between the rack and the adjuster. It's relatively easy, you just have to do it in the right sequence. A process that is more trial and error than instructionally defined. We also found that the flapper valves on the upper tack manifold lose seating and sealing ability over time, thus leading to reduced pressure on the main spray arm. Soap remaining in the soap dispenser after a run is a good indication of this. The whole manifold must be replaced. Again, a process of snapping on/off a series of plastic catches. Also, trial and error with no instructions. Read More... Do-It-Yourself Rating: Repair Time Estimate: 30-60 minutes
