Douglas S Brea , CA October 30, 2014 Appliance: Amana Gas Cooktop AKS3050SS Our amana cooktop would not light we were using one of those barbeque scripto lighters to light the burners I sent an e-mail to customer service and explained to them that I had lifted the Amana cooktop from the counter and it appeared to be a sealed unit. Not certain how to take it apart, I asked for the service manual or description on how to access the unit for repair. The next day customer service / technical support sent me a PDF, and after printing out and reading it - decided that the unit was repairable by removing (8) screws from the burners, and (2) screws from underside of the burner knobs. I took the unit apart and cleaned everything and inspected the unit. I then decided to replace one of the switches that had grease underneath it, and the ignition control unit. I ordered the parts, received them in (2) days. During that following weekend I was able to successfully repair the unit. I also took the time to repair the brackets that hold the burners underneath. I think that oven cleaner gets down there. I cleaned them with a wire wheel, removing the rust. I then used some primer and silver paint to hopefully stop the rust. The brackets are no longer available. I am still going to replace one of the gas valves, and all of the burners - since I want to keep the unit. Needless to say, we don't need the Scripto Barbeque Grill lighter now! All of our appliances match, and If I change one - the kitchen is going to look "funny". The appliance styles are different now in 2014 than they were when the kitchen was redone in 2000.
