Whirlpool WP2188242 Ice Dispenser Motor OEM Part

The auger would not turn the dispenser because the screw threads were stripped. I could not re-thread it so I had to replace the entire motor assembly. The video your company provided was extremely helpful not only for fixing the problem but to give me the confidence to do it myself. It was a very detailed video that included all the safety instructions.

Replace the ice dispenser motor and motor coupling (had to order the coupling as the orig was striped or a different size than orig). Also replaced the control panel bracket - while checking the switches noticed that a couple of pins that the switches slide onto where broke.

I pulled the ice bucket, then held the door-closed switch with one hand while pushing the ice dispenser thing on the front of the door with the other hand. I could see hear the motor turning, but the part that goes into the back of the ice bucket wasn't turning. When I removed the assembly from the freezer, the auger motor drive piece fell onto the floor. It turns out that the shaft had snapped. Once the new motor arrived, I swapped the parts and then everything worked great. I should add that I watched the video before the installation and the most important bit for me was that the shaft has left-hand threads on it.

Replaced the motor.

I thought the motor was not longer providing enough power to turn the auger in the ice tray. Discovered the motor is fine during removal of old motor to replace new motor. The auger blade (Motor Coupling is stripped on the threads) I currently cannot remove off of the motor shaft. Plan on cutting coupling off with dremmel tool once I receive a new motor coupling. I believe the threads are still good on the current motor.
