Charles M River Falls , WI April 14, 2015 Appliance: Maytag Top Loading Washer LAT8234AAE Maytag washer would not spin black cover fell off drive pulley The collar pin sheared off in the transmission of my Maytag washer. Watching on-line videos of removing the transmission looked like major project. With the front panel removed, you can repair the transmission without removing it from the washer. Remove the front panel, lay the washer on its back, rotate the transmission assembly so the cover is up. Unbolt and remove the cover, put a pan under the transmission and rotate it to drain the oil. Be sure to find all of the collar pin that sheared off, mine broke in three pieces. Replaced pin, refilled oil, cleaned and replaced silicon sealant on cover, bolted back together.
