Of course, I was unable to remove the door, because I couldn't actually locate the socket set in the house.... However, two of us were able to complete the repair without removing the door. Interesting note - there was about 10 pounds of ice between the plastic liner and the door, encasing the insulation, which tore out when the plastic piece fell off the door (which happened because we hadn't taken the door off....). However, the freezer seems to be working well (it's not running constantly, and the ice cream stays hard) - and the nasty locker room smell is gone ( a real positive of the whole experience) - so I would call it a rousing success!
