Alfred M Pahoa , HI September 07, 2014 Light switch on bottom freezer compartment flakey (intermittant) I watched the video on replacing the switch on a side freezer where prying out to original switch did not look difficult. I then got on the floor and tried to pry out my switch. Had a terrible time (locking tab or switch body hardened with time?) and mangled the switch terribly and the upper panel of the freezer somewhat, but the switch did come out. AND THEN the top freezer panel with the switch and light assembly fell out into my hands! I was able to unplug one Molex connector and the whole panel with the switch and light was free from the refrigerator. I took this panel (about 10 x 12 inches) to my desk. I could have popped the switch out at that point with no trouble and no mangling. I used some fine sandpaper and was able to smooth out the panel around the switch opening adequately; after all, who will see it? The replacement switch pins didn't exactly match the old switch connector, but the APP folks on the phone insisted I had the right part and the replacement would be accompanied by instructions - which it was. A snip with wire cutters on the old connector and a little clean-up with an Xacto knife, and the new switch was connected. The panel just pops into place! (After reconnecting the Molex connector). If I hand only known about the panel coming out so readily this would have been a 1 hour project. BTW... that light switch also controls the ice maker! It only operates when the door is closes. SO the flakey switch also was the reason for the intermittent ice maker. Realized that when looking at the electrical diagram of the fridge again on APP's web site. After installing parts found where wiring in the freezer had scrubbed thru touching the frame. Lights have now quit strobing. Holding my breath to see if the problem is solved. Kara H Charleston , SC March 08, 2016 A failed freezer door switch was causing the fridge to display that the door was open when it was not this caused it to beep at random We actually were able to determine that one of the freezer switches was bad and taped it down for about 3 days. The beeping stopped. Our fridge has two freezer switches and one fridge side switch. I ordered all three from these guys. They were cheaper than Whirlpool by about $20 for parts and about $15 for shipping. The part numbers had superseded too many times to count, usually that doesn't matter but in this case it did. The new parts were just slightly bigger than the old parts AND the opening. Eventually, I was able to pop them out with a small flat head screwdriver and then forcefully pop in the new ones. On one occasion, I had to cover it with a towel and use a mallet to force it in. We've had no issues since replacing these switches and would use these guys again in the future.
