Todd K Burr Oak , MI March 10, 2017 Appliance: Maytag Gas Dryer MDG5500AWW Would run fine but would not dry clothes something would not allow the dryer to heat For several months we could smell a slight odor of propane in the laundry room and wondered why, just didn't seem like it was enough to be overly concerned, but thought something must be wrong with the dryer, but it was still working. We just didn't know how inefficiently. Then the extra time it took to dry a load of clothes progressively seemed to get longer, but things still seemed to work fine and the clothes got dried, given enough time. Then approximately 3 weeks ago we noticed the dryer would just run for what seemed like forever. It got to the point that it was taking nearly 3 hours just to dry a load of jeans. Drying most just from the air moving through the dryer and not from any source of heat being produced. It was then I realized we either needed to see if it was repairable or if it was time to go out and buy a new one. So I decided to Google the Model number and specified "dryer not heating", when I came across the very well put together website "AppliancePartsPros.com. There videos taught me enough to know I wanted to start with thermostats, which did not work to correct our problem. Then I called and was amazed at the customer service offered in helping me narrow it down to the coil values. If I replaced the coil values that might just explain the odor of propane that we had been smelling over time. After replacing the coils, everything is working like it did the day we purchased the dryer years ago. I also changed the flame sensor while I had it apart and was inside the dryer. Thanks so much Suzanne for all your help & great advise!! Read More... 22 People found this story helpful Do-It-Yourself Rating: Repair Time Estimate: 15-30 minutes Tools: Nut Drivers, Screwdrivers
Christopher P Los Angeles , CA October 04, 2014 Appliance: Maytag Stacked Laundry- Gas LSG7806AAE Maytag gas dryer was not heating Did some dryer repair research (dryer not heating) on the internet. Bought an ohm meter, opened up the dryer and tested the cut-off-T, high limit thermostat, dryer igniter, flame sensor, cycling thermostat for continuity. The igniter was bad, the other parts tested ok. Went online to AppliancePartsPros.com searched for a new igniter for my specific dryer model, found the right replacement igniter and watched the video on how to replace the igniter. Because my dryer is old (15+ years) and I prefer not to experience the hassle of replacing failing parts every year so I purchased the new igniter and several additional parts (and the parts are inexpensive). Installed all of the new parts as shown on the repair videos on AppliancePartsPros.com and the dryer is now heating up as designed. Thank you AppliancePartsPros.com. Ron M Gig Harbor , WA August 25, 2015 Appliance: Model MAYTAG LDG9334AAE Gas dryer would start and ignite but only for one minute and then stop heating Burned out burner assembly distorted flame so much as to heat up the high limit thermostat safety switch to the off position. Replaced both burner and switch. Very easy and fast (under 15 minutes). Hardest and most time consuming part was finding the 2 hidden screws that held the front panel on the dryer. Once found, only a one minute job to remove panel. No one on youtube apparently had encountered this model of dryer before ( 1990's Maytag). Easy fix and under $80. Good"how to" video.
