This is a charcoal filter pad designed for use in a range hood or over-the-range microwave vent system. It absorbs cooking odors and smoke when the hood is operating in recirculating (non-vented) mode. Replace this filter if you notice lingering cooking smells in your kitchen despite running the vent fan, or if the filter appears discolored and saturated - typically every six months or as needed depending on cooking frequency.
