This is a filter pre-cleaner designed for use with small engines. It is designed to work in tandem with the larger air filter and provides a second layer of protection from dirt, dust, and other contaminants that might enter the engine and cause damage during operation. It also helps extend the life of the air filter. As with any filter, the filter pre-cleaner has a defined use life. Eventually, enough dirt and debris will build up in the filter that it becomes clogged, and air cannot move through smoothly. While cleaning it periodically can extend its life, it will eventually need to be replaced. If the engine is spitting and sputtering, or the owner notices it using more fuel than usual, they may need to replace the filter pre-cleaner. Replacing the filter pre-cleaner is simple. Just remove the cover, take out the old one, install the new one, and replace the cover. Note that this is an OEM part and is sold individually. It is compatible with Briggs & Stratton engines on lawn mowers, portable generators, and over 150 different machines.
The filter pre-cleaner is a first-stage cleaning system for the air filter in combustion engines. Typically, a pre-cleaner will be made of a dense foam material and will fit around a cartridge-style air filter, adding an extra level of filtration for any air coming into the engine. Over time, both the pre-cleaner and the filter can become clogged with regular use and typically need to be replaced as part of routine maintenance. However, intermittent clogs and damage can also occur that would necessitate an emergency replacement. Many people keep an extra set on hand in case of urgent repair needs. This genuine OEM filter pre-cleaner is specifically designed to fit select Briggs & Stratton engine air filters. It is compatible with over 150 machines from the brand, as well as select Toro machines that feature Briggs & Stratton engines. Replacing the air filter is simple but gloves should always be worn for hand protection. Allow the engine to cool completely and check the air filter if you are replacing the pre-cleaner to ensure that it doesn't need to be changed, as well.
