John M. for Model Number Bosh Dishwasher SHY66C05/14 This is somewhat of a long question, but I wanted to document everything I have done over the past two weeks, as accurate as possible. Recently, I noticed that at the end of the wash-cycle, the machine (drain pump ?) kept running and the display would not get to zero (typically stuck at 1 min). When opening the door, the unit stopped and the dishes were clean and dry. I examined all the parts inside the machine; such as the drain, circulation filter, arms etc., but found no debris or any other visible damage or problems. I then pulled the unit out from under the counter and noticed that the bottom pan had a lot of water in it. Used a shop- vac and paper towels to remove the water and let it dry out for a few days. After that, it would run again, but during the cycle (Quick Wash), I was observing that the bottom pan would slowly fill up with water again, and it seemed to come from the motor area (right side). So, the machine does drain, but a big part of the water and soap leaks into the bottom pan somehow from somewhere? Then, spent days on the Internet to try to diagnose and fix the problem. One suggestion was that the Float switch or Pressure Switch (water level system) [Bosch # 00499500] was defective, so ordered that part. After ordering, I did check the two switches with my multimeter and they both had continuity, so they should be OK. While waiting for this part (that I probably didn’t need) to arrive, continued searching for a solution. Found another suggestion that the Water Inlet Valve [Bosch # 00425458] could be the culprit. So, ordered that part too. The original valve looked bad and had gunk in it after 8 years. However, it checked out for continuity, but replaced it and the angled brass connector anyway oh well. Hooked everything back up and ran a Quick Wash cycle. Same result; cycle completed, but stuck at the end and too much water in the base pan. Ordered an Impeller and Seal Kit [Bosch # 00167085], another suggestion I found on-line. The part arrived today, and now I was doing the big job of getting into the guts of the machine to replace the impeller etc. However, when I got everything apart, it seemed the Impeller, the Shaft-Seal, the O-ring and the spacer where all OK (they looked no different than the just delivered replacement parts) with no visible tears or damage, now what? Also, both the large [Bosch # 00263102] Pump Gasket as well as the smaller Pump Gasket [Bosch # 00171598] looked fine and not damaged; only some calcium deposits. On the motor itself, the only thing I could see was Calcium deposits on the down end of the motor housing, probably due to sitting in water over longer periods of time. BUT, I also noticed Calcium deposits on the inside under the Impeller and it looked like these deposits may have started at or around the center pin, which seem strange, at least to a novice like me. I also visually inspected the Drain Pump [Bosch # 00642239] and checked it with my multimeter; it looks fine and has continuity, so I guess it is OK? I do not have a Capacitance feature on my multimeter, so I have not been able to check the capacitor mounted to the motor, but it looks OK (no bulging) and since the washer starts and runs, both the motor and the capacitor seem to be OK? Nevertheless, I am now totally stuck; the “patient” is lying on its back with the “belly” open and the motor removed and I still have no idea where the leak is or what causes it. The spare parts are piling up and I don’t know if I even need them. However, I still cannot see anything obvious that would cause this leak into the bottom pan which, I assume, result in the other issues with are no getting more and more expensive, and I still have not fixed my problem. Any help, suggestions, and advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Answer Hello John, Every time I go out on one of these that has a "mystery leak", I pull the unit, hook it up so I can run it out from under the counter with an extension power line, water supply line, and just place the drain line in the sink, plugging the connection point where it was connected in its' installed position. This enables me to run the unit while I watch under the unit. It is sometimes necessary to remove the side panels, (when applicable since all do not have them), so I can see where the water is coming from. I know this is not the quick and simple answer you were hoping for, but this is where I start in diagnosing a difficult leak situation. Read More...
