The Spark Module is an OEM part Bosch ranges and cooktops. This electronic part generates the high-voltage spark needed to reliably ignite the gas burners with the push of a button.

Causes can be issues like component failure over the thousands of ignitions it facilitates. Water ingress could also potentially cause problems.

Symptoms of a bad spark module include:

  • Unreliable or intermittent burner ignition requiring multiple ignition button presses
  • One or more burners that will not ignite at all
  • Occasionally flashing or error codes relating to ignition issues

This OEM Bosch part is also compatible with Thermador, Gaggenau, and some Kenmore models.

Robert for Model Number Thermador PC366BS/01

I want to replace the ignition heads for the six burners and I have several questions. 1) Each ignition head has a small spring on it. Are these easy to take off and should they be reused? Part number 00189324 2) All six burners light most of the time. To extend the life of the cooktop, should I also replace the spark module? Part number 00753257. 3) I am not clear on the difference between the spark module and the control unit (part number 00645446). Would you explain and let me know if I also need the control unit? Regards

Answer

Robert, The springs can be reused as long as they are in good shape, and not damaged. The spark module would only need to be replaced if it is damaged or not functioning. The spark module provides the spark to each ignitor and the control provides the power to the valve switches when a particular valve is turned on.
