Manufacturer Part Number: 00165256

The Float Switch is an OEM replacement part specific to Bosch dishwashers. It is a switch located in the sump area of the dishwasher tub that detects water levels and provides feedback for automatic filling and draining functions.

Symptoms of a bad float switch include:

  • The dishwasher fails to fully drain water after cycles
  • Cycles not initiating or advancing properly due to water level issues
  • Float switch area where the sensor attaches developing leaks
  • Loose or detached float switch from normal wear over time

Causes of a bad float switch are usually mineral or sediment buildup disrupting its buoyancy and sensing ability. Without a properly functioning float switch, the dishwasher cannot effectively monitor water levels to manage filling and drainage.

This OEM Bosch replacement switch is also compatible with Thermador, Gaggenau, and some Kenmore dishwasher models.

Brooke for Model Number SHU43C05UC/22

Dishwasher was running for maybe 10-15 minutes when I noticed an unusual smell (kind of like burned plastic). I stopped it, opened the door and no water inside. Detergent pack had been released and otherwise seemed to be running normally. I discovered water in plastic basin and on floor below, and the float switch was engaged. Leak seems to be from bottom seal of door, which I will replace. Am I correct in assuming that the float switch shut off the water inlet? If so, shouldn't it have also not allowed the machine to operate and triggered a code as well? And should I be concerned about the smell or any damage caused by running it dry?

Answer

Brooke, You will need to pull the unit out and check the water inlet system on the left lower side when facing the unit. When the unit is removed from the cabinets remove any side panels where you can see into the base of the unit. Start a cycle and let the unit fill looking all over for the leak. Pay attention to the left side water inlet system.A faulty valve will let water leak from the air gap in the inlet.
