The Float Switch is an OEM replacement part specific to Bosch dishwashers. It is a switch located in the sump area of the dishwasher tub that detects water levels and provides feedback for automatic filling and draining functions.

Symptoms of a bad float switch include:

  • The dishwasher fails to fully drain water after cycles
  • Cycles not initiating or advancing properly due to water level issues
  • Float switch area where the sensor attaches developing leaks
  • Loose or detached float switch from normal wear over time

Causes of a bad float switch are usually mineral or sediment buildup disrupting its buoyancy and sensing ability. Without a properly functioning float switch, the dishwasher cannot effectively monitor water levels to manage filling and drainage.

This OEM Bosch replacement switch is also compatible with Thermador, Gaggenau, and some Kenmore dishwasher models.

Clark, We will need to have the model number of your unit to be able to assist properly but check the float switch for being the issue and make sure that there is good water flow at the valve and make sure there are no kinks in the water line.

BB, based on your description, you have a water heating issue " Occasionally dishwashers can run for hours, not finish washing & show a “1” in the display. This means the module has timed out due to an unidentified heating problem -- all heating related parts must be checked until the problem is found." You may want to start by checking the water temperature in the bottom of the tub on the first fill of a wash cycle, The water temperature should be 120 dgrs. F. then check the heater assembly 00480317 and sensor. Thanks,

Marion, If you pull the unit out and look in the base you will probably find water in the float switch area. The defective part is the valve 00425458 that doesn't open all the way and lets water leak from the inlet assembly into the base.

Brooke for Model Number SHU43C05UC/22

Dishwasher was running for maybe 10-15 minutes when I noticed an unusual smell (kind of like burned plastic). I stopped it, opened the door and no water inside. Detergent pack had been released and otherwise seemed to be running normally. I discovered water in plastic basin and on floor below, and the float switch was engaged. Leak seems to be from bottom seal of door, which I will replace. Am I correct in assuming that the float switch shut off the water inlet? If so, shouldn't it have also not allowed the machine to operate and triggered a code as well? And should I be concerned about the smell or any damage caused by running it dry?

Brooke, You will need to pull the unit out and check the water inlet system on the left lower side when facing the unit. When the unit is removed from the cabinets remove any side panels where you can see into the base of the unit. Start a cycle and let the unit fill looking all over for the leak. Pay attention to the left side water inlet system.A faulty valve will let water leak from the air gap in the inlet.

Lester, You will want to check to see if there is 120 vac getting to the pump. If there is then this will be a faulty pump. If there is not then this will be a control module issue.

ML, Unfortunately we would not have any information on the float switch for this model on whether this float switch is normally closed or normally open. According to the model number this float 00165256 will be the correct one for your unit.

ML, Unfortunately the switches may be different as one may be normally open and one normally closed with the button not being pushed. You would have to check this to determine if they match up. If they do they would be able to use the same and if not then will need both individual switches.

Omer, This issue would most likely be caused by a issue with the control board if the drain motor is coming on the same time the unit is draining.

Mike, You will want to check to make sure that there is no issue with the unit heating, make sure that the drain has not gotten clogged. If these check ok then it sounds like the control module would be the issue with the unit.
