Jii for Model Number HES7132U/01 Electric range/oven The "Off" touch on the control panel mostly does not work. It takes MANY (probably 25x +) to get the oven to shut off. It does eventually work. If mechanical, I would say that the "spring" behind the button has broken. It is, of course, not mechanical. Is it heat sensitive? It does not appear to move when pressed. Is there a way to repair the module in this button area or must the unit be replaced?
Answer Jill, The 00686205 / 00686205 Panel, will need to be replaced. At present we are not aware of a repair procedure for a glass capacitance key pad/ control panel. In most cases the panel is not "heat sensitive" but we have seen customers need to rub or warm their finger tips to make a selection. On these types of panels, each button or key has an electrical circuit passing through it. When you touch a button, the circuit is "disturbed" and the control recognizes the selection made and programs the chosen circuit. The majority of failures, is usually due to high usage, of one particular selection or program, and or cleaning procedures and household chemicals, use a damp soapy wash cloth to clean the control panel.
