Hello George. The defrost timer WR9X502 when twisted to the defrost cycle, should close the contacts to send power to the heater in the freezer. If so, and the timer motor is running the timer, the timer is good. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter.
