Kenneth, Yes there is a micro switch mounted under the float assembly it called a "flood switch" WD12X10151, It is possible for the switch to stick or fail, but rare. You'll need to remove the lower access panel and kick plate to access the bottom of the tub. It is more likely that the fill valve WD15X10003 is "sticking" and allowing more water into the tub after the flood switch opens and the control has removed power to the valve.
