This dishwasher float sits in the tub and works with the float switch to control the fill level and prevent overfilling. Replace it if cracked or sticking to restore reliable water level control and help avoid leaks.

  • Rises with the water level to trigger the float switch and stop filling at the correct point
  • Helps prevent overfilling and door leaks
  • Common symptoms of a damaged or obstructed float include continuous filling, overfill/leaks, or no/insufficient fill
  • Restores consistent water level sensing when the original float is worn or missing
What's included: 1 float Install notes:
  • Disconnect power and turn off the water supply
  • Open the door and remove the lower rack
  • Remove the float cover; pull the old float straight up and clear any debris from the well
  • Insert the new float and verify free up-and-down movement before reassembly and testing

Questions & Answers

For Ge Float (Water Level/Overfill Protection) (Part Number: OEM9554349)

Hello Patricia. The first thing you will want to check is the float assembly WD12X10047, make sure nothing is stopping the float from moving up and down freely. Also make sure the switch WD12X10151 clicks when you press on it. If the last few steps clear, then more than likely you will have to replace the water valve WD15X10014. Thanks!

Kenneth, Yes there is a micro switch mounted under the float assembly it called a "flood switch" WD12X10151, It is possible for the switch to stick or fail, but rare. You'll need to remove the lower access panel and kick plate to access the bottom of the tub. It is more likely that the fill valve WD15X10003 is "sticking" and allowing more water into the tub after the flood switch opens and the control has removed power to the valve.

All of a sudden the dishwasher began to leak and it wasn't draining. I cleaned the sump screen and the sump itself. I cleaned the fine filter and it was dirty but not too bad. I found around the sump screen and in the sump pieces of a broken wine glass? I cleared all that out. I ran it again and it was draining fine. The problem I was then having was the pump was pumping water through the cleaning system but at low pressure? Could the glass have made its way to the pum and break the impeller? It's a newer washer and quite nice in my opinion? I checked the drain hose and it was clear. Please help.

Kevin, If the circulation motor is coming on during the drain cycle then the issue would be caused by a faulty control board.

Hello Jason. You need to check inside the sump assembly. If it is not clogged there, put the hose into a bucket and see if the drain pump is pumping enough to remove all the water in the tub. If there is power to the drain pump, and it does not pump fast enough, you will need to replace the pump. If it pumps a good stream, them the board may be turning it off to early. Keep in mind, no dishwasher will completely drain all the water. It is normal for some water to remain in the sump assembly.
