Michele for Model Number GE PSS26NSWA SS The coils in the back of the freezer behind the panel are showing heavy frost. The refrigerator and the freezer are unable to cool to temp when these coils are frozen. If I use a blow dryer and melt the ice, both the refreigerator and freezer start cooling more efficiently again. I've repeated this process a few times. It is only a few days before I have to melt the ice buildup again. Also, before this happened, the water dispenser would occasionally stop working (freezing up?). Before that, the ice maker stopped working. I don't care so much about the ice maker, but we really do need this unit to cool properly. Eventually we plan to replace the unit, but not for a few years if we can make it last. Please a help! What part do I need to replace? I have pictures if needed... thanks!
Answer Michele, You will want to test the defrost heater for continuity, test the thermistor for resistance while in ice of 42.2K ohms of resistance and the thermostat for continuity. Replace the parts that do not have continuity or the correct resistance. If these check ok then the issue will be a faulty main control board. Read More...
