Retried Dad for Model Number GSS25JFMBWW Experiencing frost building up on back wall of the freezer and on the coils when I removed the cover. I removed the defrost heater and it appears to have a loose/broken end because because the meter (digital auto ranging) jumps around to various readings or to infinity depending on pressure/jiggle when I have the probes in contact. So I am waiting for delivery of a replacement heater. I thought I would also check the thermostat and temperature sensor while I am waiting. I would like to check them for continuity. From what I see at least for the thermostat, they run to a harness/block. Would I need to cut the wires to remove them and test them?
Answer Hello Retried Dad, The thermistors can be checked from the control board if you have needle probes for your meter. Standard probes damage the connectors when used. The defrost thermostat can be checked with a resistance meter with power turned off but it will have to be below 20°F to produce a reading. Read More...
