Nicky for Model Number GSH22JSTASS Side by side GE. Refrigerator stopped cooling over a couple of weeks and eventually ice cream was soft in freezer. Slight build up at back of freezer (top coil section, I think). Tested defrost heater and thermostat circuit. Says reading should be ohm 15-25. Mine was 28. Removed heater and tested...was the same, 28 ohm. Is this too high? Defrost heater was replaced 2 and a half years ago.
Answer Nicky, The readings that you are getting would be fine. If the coils are completely impacted with ice then the issue will likely be the thermistor which would have a reading of 42.2K ohms at 0 degrees. If the resistance is not correct then the thermistor is bad and if it checks ok then the issue will be a main board. If the coils only have a little frost across the top then this would be a possible sealed system issue which would need a servicer. Read More...
