Joe O. for Model Number PTS25LBMARCC - G.E. Arctica Profile Hello. My evaporator coils are icing up, and so the fresh food section is not cooling. I've replaced the defrost limiter and the mother board. I checked the heater for continuity, and it's fine. From what I read in the Q&A's, the next thing to focus on is the temperature sensors (AP3185407). 1) Please tell me know many such sensors are in model #PTS25LBMARCC. 2) As it's the fresh food section that fails to cool, can I assume the sensors in the fresh food section are bad, and the freezer sensors good? Thank you
Answer Hello Joe, If the evaporator coils are frosting up, the fresh food sensor has nothing to do with your issue. The issue is a defrost issue. This is controlled by the main control boards' reaction to the information received from the components on the unit. The defrost heater can still be bad since the coils inside it can contact and show a reading when the element is actually bad. I had this issue several times and it caused me to replace the defrost heater when I had previously thought it was good. The way I discovered this was when I used the jumper on the board to force the heater to energize. The heater started glowing and sparked brightly and went dim and faded out. When I discontinued the voltage and let it cool back down I tried it again with my test meter and it read continuity once again. Yours may not be bad, but you should bump the element while testing for continuity. If the numbers vary when you bump it, the heater is bad. In response to the other question, there are two sensors in the freezer compartment. One is at the left bottom of the evaporator cover and the other is mounted to the top left of the evaporator assembly. Read More... Answered by AppliancePartsPros.com | Monday, October 8, 2012
