Tim for Model Number DBXR453ET2WW GE dryer model DBXR453ET2WW Timer no longer functions - knob spins normally by hand, I assume the motor is toast.. Dryer operates but no heat (breaker is not tripped/half tripped). Could the timer be the cause of no heat or would I be looking at replacing a thermostat and/or heating element as well? Is it possible to test continuity in the element and thermostat from the panel or will I need to disassemble the dryer and check them directly/individually? Thank you for your time.
Answer Tim, it would be recommended that the voltage supply is tested as there should be 240VAC at the terminal block where the power cord connects into the dryer. If there is 240VAC, the power cord can be unplugged and the timer accessed. The heating circuit can be tested somewhat to identify if there is a break in the outlet and safety thermostats. With the timer set to a normal heat cycle, the timer would be tested from terminal B to terminal A for continuity as there should be for L1 voltage to go to the element. If there is continuity, test the orange wire at the timer for continuity to the purple wire at the selector switch. If there is continuity, the safety thermostat and the high-temperature outlet thermostat are good. The purple wire would then be tested to the white wire on the selector switch for continuity to identify if the low heat drum outlet thermostat is good (there should be continuity). The inlet thermostat (tested for continuity) and the heating element (tested for resistance) would need to be tested directly to identify if they are operable. Read More...
