The Sensor Assembly is an OEM part for LG washing machines. This component is crucial for detecting and monitoring various conditions within the washing machine, such as water level, temperature, and load balance. It ensures the machine operates efficiently and effectively by providing accurate data to the control board.

Causes of a bad sensor assembly can include wear and tear from regular use, exposure to water and detergents, electrical malfunctions, or damage from impact. A faulty sensor assembly can lead to incorrect readings, which can affect the washing machine’s performance and lead to issues such as improper water levels or unbalanced loads.

Symptoms of a bad Sensor Assembly include:

  • Incorrect water levels during cycles
  • The washing machine stopping mid-cycle or not completing cycles
  • Error codes related to water level or load balance
  • The machine failing to start or operate correctly

This OEM LG part is also compatible with Sears/Kenmore models.

James for Model Number WM2301HR

I have a front load LG model WM2301HR. The drum was turning one way, but not the other and had a slight electrical smell. Then it stopped turning at all. After doing some checking it seems that it would be the rotation position sensor as far as the drum turning, but would it being on it's last leg cause the electrical smell? I'm assuming it may have been the motor trying to turn it, but something with the senor not working made the motor have to work even harder or would there be another reason? I get the RPS tomorrow and hope that will fix it, but wanted to ask about the electrical smell.

Answer

James, it is possible that the RPS switch caused the electrical smell, however it should not have influenced the motor rotating in each direction. You may want to test the resistance of the motor windings for a resistance of 5 to 15 ohms between pins 1, 2, and 3 when tested to each other (i.e. pin 1 to pin 2 should read between 5 to 15 ohms). You may also want to verify that the electrical smell is coming from that section of the washer.
