Sam for Model Number BX21TL My fridge and freezer are not cooling as much as they should. The fridge is at about 42 deg, and freezer at 20-22 deg, with both set near max coldness. Several days after it started not cooling as well, I found oily brown liquid, maybe an ounce, on the floor at the left front corner, standing in front and looking at the unit. It is still cooling some but not like it did. The condenser fan seems to work properly. Is this a refrigerant leak that stopped??
Answer Sam, the oily brown liquid mentioned could be oil from the sealed system mixing with water from the drip pan or it could be discolored water that is leaking from the drip pan. The evaporator will need to be inspected for a frost pattern. If there is not a frost pattern on the evaporator, and the condenser coils are clean, then it is likely that there is a freon leak in the sealed system. With any freon issue, a licensed technician would need to be contacted for repairs. If there is a frost pattern that is partially restricting airflow at the evaporator, it is possible that there is a partial defrost occurring and causing this issue. Read More...
